Semester Reflection

Looking over all the blog posts its surprising to see how much I have done and read! The semester felt like it flew by - I think because of the pace of the program, but seeing how much we covered is really amazing. 

The piece that resonated with me the most, and still resonates with me is Skemps. It was an early read, but it really impacted how I thought about math the rest of the semester. I found myself frequently thinking about relational versus instrumental knowledge and using this language to express my thoughts. 

The piece that I feel differently about now is Dave Hewitts. Reading it, I didn't like it at all. Watching the video of him, however, really inspired me. I think I understand the reading better now that I have watched the video- and I agree with it a bit more. When I initially read it I was very hung up and the exact syntax of the piece, and I disagreed with a lot of it. Now that I feel I understand more the spirit of it, I think I like the article better. 

Overall I feel like I learned a lot this semester. I learned about timing during the curricular microteaching; I learned about incorporating mathematics and art through the group art project. My favourite project has been the unit plan - I actually really like lesson planning and thinking about creative ways to engage students and get them thinking.
